The 'X' Delays Launch Of Beer Vending Machine

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The hoped-for launch of a new first-of-its-kind beer vending machine at the Xcel Energy Center has been delayed.

The venue planned on unveiling the device Thursday night, as the Minnesota Wild faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks, hoping to snap their two-game losing streak.

Late Thursday morning, though, a spokesperson for the Wild said, "We are attempting to work through some additional logistics with the Smart Vending Machine.  As a result, we are not launching its use at this time."

There was no word as to when they expected to allow the machine to make its debut.

The beer vending machine was to be placed on the main concourse near section 113.

To order a beer, you were supposed to show your ID to a person standing next to it. Only then could you buy a 25-ounce beer.

While recently sports fans were allowed to purchase draft beer in a cup via vending machine at Target Field, representatives say this is the first vending machine to distribute cans of beer.
