The Replacements To Play Midway Stadium In St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Replacements, who were one of the bands who helped pave the way for a new alternative rock scene in the early 1980s, have announced a long-awaited hometown reunion concert.

The concert is scheduled to take place at Midway Stadium on Sept. 13.

Since their reunion in 2012, the band has played a few festivals and other small gigs. But the show at the Midway will be their first full headline performance since their free concert at Grant Park in Chicago back on July 4, 1991.

The Minneapolis rockers are also promising some "very special guests" at the show. Tickets are $50 each and go on sale next Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Replacements, who were prominent among a boom of Minneapolis acts in the early 1980s including Prince and Hüsker Dü, were nominated for induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the first time last fall. They didn't end up among this year's honorees, but they can still be shortlisted in the years to come.
