New Vikings Stadium Now 17 Percent Complete
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While the construction won't be complete until 2016, recent updates show the new Minnesota Vikings stadium is now 17 percent finished.
A report from the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority states more than 350,000 hours have been put into the project thus far -- a fraction of the 4.5 million hours that's estimated by the stadium's completion.
The $1 billion stadium is set to have a soft open sometime in mid-August of 2016, after a new "substantial completion" date was set for July 29. By the time the stadium is complete, approximately 7,500 workers will have lent a hand to its construction.
The report, which can be viewed here (.pdf), shares plenty of facts about the stadium's progress. For example, 9 percent of the work done so far has been performed by women.
Earlier this month, officials with the MSFA said crews were working around the clock to take advantage of good weather and that the signature part-glass roof could start taking shape early next year.
Minnesota taxpayers are paying $477 million of the construction and the Vikings have been tasked with chipping in $526 million in private money.
The stadium will host the 2018 Super Bowl.
