The Internet Loves Alex, And So Does Target

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – For no clear reason, a Target employee named Alex became an internet meme over the weekend, and the Minneapolis-based retailer acknowledged it on Monday via Twitter.

"Alex from Target" started Sunday morning when Twitter user @auscalum posted a photo of Alex bagging items behind the counter. That was all it took.

During the next several hours, the photo of Alex flew all over Twitter, spawning spin-off memes and even fake Target ads.

According to Buzzfeed, the Alex in Alex from Target was startled by his instant rise to fame for no reason, but took it well.

If anything, Alex's job seems secure. Target tweeted Monday morning that they're fans of Alex, too.
