The Cure Of IRSphobia

I am afraid of the IRS.

It's irrational as I always file early and usually get a refund. But I get that knot in my stomach every year thinking about what could go wrong this time.

Two years ago, I got a bill from the IRS for $27,546. OMG!

It was a mistake dating back to some incorrectly filed divorce paperwork, but I don't think I slept for a week while worrying about it!

Last year, they withheld my refund check until I could prove that I was me. This took more than three hours on the phone with an agent; all documented live during the John Williams show. And this year could be ripe for mistakes. I sold a house, bought a house, refinanced the house and got married. I'm a CPA's headache.

I envy those who do their own taxes, but I honestly don't trust myself enough to e-file on my own.

This year, I dragged handsome husband down to my accountant even earlier than usual. Shockingly we were only missing a few documents! But the best part was leaving, sorry Frank (my accountant)!

It felt like a huge weight being lifted. The burden is now on Frank to make sense of it all and hopefully get me a refund. Good luck, Frank!
