Teen Driver Hurt After Fleeing Police, Crashing In Inver Grove Heights

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 14-year-old male was hospitalized late Monday after a police chase in the east metro ended with a crash in Inver Grove Heights, according to police.

The West St. Paul Police Department says the incident started at about 11:53 p.m. Monday. An officer pulled behind a suspicious vehicle that left the Wal-Mart parking lot on the 1600 block of South Robert Street at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle fled and a chase ensued. Authorities say the fleeing vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, and the chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a bridge on southbound Highway 52 near 80th Street in Inver Grove Heights.

The suspected driver, a 14-year-old male, was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital with only minor injuries. Police said they believe he took a relative's car.

The incident remains under investigating.
