Teen Charged With Shooting, Killing Girlfriend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota teenager is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Police arrested 17-year-old Ahmed Abdi last week in Kansas City, Missouri. They believe Abdi fatally shot 21-year-old Ayan Abdulahi at a residence on the 2400 block of Portland Avenue on the afternoon of April 11.

According to the charges, Abdi was staying with his aunt and uncle at the time of the shooting. It was Abdi's uncle who said he heard the gunshot from Abdi's bedroom.

Abdulahi was shot through the head while lying on Abdi's bed, charges say.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said that a witness said that Abdi, before the night of the murder, fought with someone over a bottle outside of a liquor store, and pointed a gun at the other man, threatening to shoot him.

The county attorney's office is pursuing the option to try Abdi as an adult.
