Team Captains Begin Countdown To Ryder Cup

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Ryder Cup golf tournament is just one year away, and the premiere golfing event will be held at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.

On Monday morning, Gov. Mark Dayton and economic development officials held a welcome breakfast to mark the celebration.

Excitement was building, especially for the Ryder Cup captains. European team captain Darren Clarke and U.S. captain Davis Love III received a warm welcome to the Twin Cities.

"I cannot wait for a year," Clarke said. "We're going to put on a good show for you."

As a show of appreciation, the captains received a taste of Minnesota hospitality that extended beyond breakfast; a jersey from every professional sports team in the Twin Cities.

The 2016 Ryder Cup will be held at Hazeltine from Sept. 27, 2016, through Oct 2, 2016.

There is a large demand for tickets.

Those interested in getting them have to go through a random selection process.

The six-day event is expected to bring more than 250,000 people to Minnesota.

In previous years, the Ryder Cup has been known to generate up to $135 million for local economies.
