Taxi Drivers Block Downtown Minneapolis Streets

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Around 30 taxi drivers from Minneapolis blocked some city streets on their way to visit the mayor's office Tuesday.

The cabs parked along Fourth Street, outside city hall, blocking traffic for more than an hour as a few representatives met with the mayor's senior staff.

The group said there are about 1,000 cab drivers in the city, and they are frustrated with what they call unfair competition from limo services at local hotels.

Drivers also say they feel disrespected by city traffic enforcement officers.

"We our out of a job now because of limo drivers and doormen [who] sell our fares to the limos," taxi driver Temesgen Lakew said.

The mayor's office said it will meet again with the group next week to see if they can alleviate their concerns.
