Target Phasing Out Some Gender-Based Signs

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Target announced Friday it would be phasing out some gender-based signs in its stores.

Some sections of the store --such as the kids' bedding and toy aisles -- will soon be absent of reference to gender. Clothing will still be marked with binary gender designations.

"We never want guests or their families to feel frustrated or limited by the way things are presented," the Minneapolis-based retailer said in a statement.

Target said toy aisles will no longer use "pink, blue, yellow or green paper on the back walls" of shelves.

The changes will go into effect over the next few months.
