Tap Talk: Tin Whiskers Releases Bottled Barrel Shifter Porter

A seasonal favorite is returning to the taps at Tin Whiskers Brewery Co., and, for the first time ever, it will also be available in bottles!

The St. Paul brewery is releasing its Barrel Shifter Porter for the first time in bottles on Monday, Dec. 21.

The winter warmer is brewed with four different malt varieties, Chinook and East Kent hops and aged on American oak and cherry tree wood. It has notes of cherry and vanilla, and is 7.5 percent ABV.

"It is a perfect everyday winter beer. The wood adds a lot of depth and complexity needed during what should be our cold winter months," Jeff Moriarty, one of the founders of Tin Whiskers, said in a recent press release.

The Barrel Shifter will be sold in 22 ounce bottles. It will be available wherever Tin Whiskers is sold.

As with other Tin Whiskers brews, the Barrel Shifter received its name from an electrical engineering term. A barrel shifter, is a digital circuit that can shift data using a specified number.

"Much like the complex and robust flavors of this beer will do to your taste buds," the press release notes.

It will make its way to taps on Jan. 8, 2016.
