Tap Talk: Tin Whiskers And LynLake Brewery Face Off In Brew-Off

A new season has arrived: competition season.

Sure, it's fall. But aside from changing leaves and cooler temperatures, fall means competition.

Autumn marks the beginning of football season, the beginning of baseball playoffs, the beginning of awards season and it ushers in countless show premieres just waiting to be judged.

So, with the winds of conflict blowing, Tin Whiskers decided it was time to host another brew-off.

For those that may have missed the inaugural competition back in May, a "brew-off" pits two brewers against one another and challenges them to create a special beer made with three ingredients chosen by the public.

Both concoctions are presented to the consumers, who then proceed to vote for their favorite.

In the first brew-off, St. Paul breweries Tin Whiskers and Urban Growler went head to head. The ingredients were mango, coconut and ginger.

Tin Whiskers made a nuttier IPA while Urban Growler went with a fruitier wheat selection.

The conclusion? A tie.

This time the stakes are raised as the brew-off moves across the river.

Brewers from each of the Twin Cities face off as Minneapolis' LynLake Brewery takes on Tin Whiskers.

This challenge's flavors? Tamarind, lemongrass and caramel.

"It's just a fun way to really challenge you to use ingredients you may never have used, or even wanted to use before, but now you're forced to," co-founder of Tin Whiskers, Jeff Moriarty, said.

After a blind taste test participants will then vote on which beer they think is better. The winner, if there is one, will receive the title of Brew-Off Champion.

This next brew-off takes place from 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Republic Calhoun Square, located at 3001 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood.

Don't want to drive? The Uptown Transit center is located just north of Republic on Hennepin Avenue. Metro Transit bus routes 6, 12, 17, 21, 23, 53, 114 and 115 all make stops at the transit center.
