Sydney Jordan Wins Democratic Primary For NE Minneapolis House Seat

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Labor and environmental activist Sydney Jordan has won a Democratic primary election for a Minnesota House seat in northeast Minneapolis.

Jordan got nearly 29% of the vote Tuesday in a crowded field of 11 candidates to advance to the Feb. 4 special election. Given that Republicans did not field a candidate, her only opponent in heavily Democratic District 60A will be Legal Marijuana Now candidate Marty Super.

Gov. Tim Walz called the special election to fill the seat of Democratic Rep. Diane Loeffler, who died in November.

Jordan is state director for Save the Boundary Waters. She has also worked as union organizer with the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers. Jordan had the endorsement of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

A special election will also be held Feb. 4 in northwest suburban District 30A, which includes Elk River and Big Lake. Republican Paul Novotny will face Democrat Chad Hobot for the seat vacated by GOP Rep. Nick Zerwas, who resigned and became a lobbyist.
