SWAT Team Responds To Home Invasion, Shots Fired

CHISAGO LAKES TOWNSHIP, Minn. (AP) -- SWAT team officers were called to a house in Chisago County by homeowners who said a man had entered their residence and fired gunshots.

Sheriff's officials say the husband and wife locked themselves in a bedroom Monday night after the armed man fired three rounds in the kitchen, then went into a laundry room. The husband told dispatchers the gunman said people were chasing him and were crawling through the windows.

Authorities say the husband used a fire escape ladder to get out of the house, but his wife was unable to do so.

Tactical officers surrounded the home while a deputy negotiated with the gunman. The man eventually climbed out of the laundry room window and was arrested. He was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. The homeowners weren't injured.
