Swarm Ask Lacrosse League For Relocation
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Swarm wants to move.
The lacrosse team has applied to the National Lacrosse League to relocate for the 2016 season.
Swarm owner John Arlotta says in a statement that the team's lease at the Xcel Energy Center ended this year, and "economics" don't lend themselves to a sustainable business model for an independently owned lacrosse franchise.
Arlotta says the Xcel Energy Center has limited availability during the season, and the team's future schedule would have more Sunday games and longer gaps between home games, which fans have disliked.
He says the team plans to announce a new location in the near future.
The Swarm was founded in 2004 and managed by Minnesota Sports & Entertainment until John and Andy Arlotta bought it in 2008.
