Suspect Shot By Police At Airport Out Of The Hospital

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — A suspect shot by police at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is in custody on possible charges of aggravated assault following his release from the hospital.

Hennepin County sheriff's officials say airport police were investigating a report of some suspicious activity in the rental car area in one of the terminals Saturday about 9:30 p.m. Authorities say there has been a rash of rental car thefts at the airport recently.

A sheriff's spokeswoman says the 36-year-old suspect drove his car drove toward police who opened fire. An officer also suffered minor injuries. Authorities did not explain how the officer was injured. Authorities identified the suspect Sunday as 36-year-old Abdulkadir Sheikh Mahmoud.

Sheriff Rich Stanek says investigators don't believe the incident has any connection with Homeland Security.
