Surly's 'Darkness Day' Draws Crowds To Brooklyn Center Brewery

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thousands of beer lovers had their chance to taste a very special brew today.

Overnight, crowds of people waited in line to get their hands on Surly's famed Russian imperial stout, at the Brooklyn Center brewery. Every year fans are invited to buy bottles of the coveted beer.

The first 1,500 people in line had the chance to purchase two different variations of its dark beer: the original Stout, and a special barrel-aged version.

"The great thing about this beer is we only release it once a year," the brewery's founder Omar Ansari said. "We get people from all over the country to come out. And it's a great beer for sharing, which is really what beer is all about."

Regular Darkness bottles go on sale to everyone starting next week.
