Surgery Recovery Keeps Dayton From Minn. Capitol
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — As the 2013 Minnesota Legislative session unfolds, one major play is absent: Gov. Mark Dayton.
Right now, Dayton, 67, is secluded at the Official Governor's Residence in St. Paul, where he is recovering from major hip surgery earlier this month at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
In a conference call with reporters, Dayton revealed he's not taking many visitors because he's in a body cast.
"I still have this body cast, which makes it very hard to move around," said Dayton, who explained previously he's working full-time from home by telephone and computer.
Dayton said he will wear the body cast for another two weeks, after which he will get an MRI.
"At that point in my recuperation, I will wear a brace, which will still partially immobilize the hip, but it will mean I can get a pair of pants on," he said, "which is advisable if going to the Capitol."
Dayton, a Democrat who is running for re-election this year, said he does not expect his movements to be restricted and plans to campaign full time by summer.
