Super Bowl Drunk Driving Arrests Down Significantly In Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Super Bowl drunk driving arrests went down significantly this year, according to numbers from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Law enforcement officers made 65 DWI arrests across the state on Sunday, including a Virginia driver with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.33. Since 2010, police arrested an average of 190 drivers on the day of the big game.

Preliminary numbers from the MnDPS suggest an overall decline of drunk driving in Minnesota. DWI arrests were down for the eighth straight year across the state, with 2014 seeing nearly 1,500 fewer incidents than last year.

Authorities attribute the downward decline to an increased public awareness campaign, including an effort led by former Vikings running back Chuck Foreman last week ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.
