Subway Franchise Robber Sentenced To 13 Years

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Duluth man who robbed a Subway franchise at gunpoint and assaulted a woman, whose home he was burglarizing, with a glass vase was sentenced to 13 years and four months in prison on Thursday.

Tommy Ray Morgan, Sr., 28, was found guilty in March of assault, robbery, burglary, credit card fraud and possession of a controlled substance.

In May 2014, the month after he robbed the Subway, he entered a woman's home as she slept and, after hitting her with the glass vase, stole her jewelry. He also burglarized another home later that month.

The prosecutor had asked for a 30-year sentence.

"The victim came into the courtroom and courageously told the court how the defendant's actions forever altered her life," Jon Holets said in a statement after the hearing. "We're pleased that justice was done, but the sentence was far short of what we thought he deserved."
