Study: TV Rating System Not Helpful For Parents

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A new study states that the current television rating system is not accurate and of very little help to parents.

The study, published in the journal "Pediatrics," revealed violence is common across shows, regardless of rating.

Scientists said the problem with violence as portrayed on T.V. is that it's "trivialized and glamorized, "and kids have a hard time differentiating it from reality.

The findings encouraged parents to watch T.V. with their children and talk about media and risky behaviors whenever possible.
