Study: Cat Videos Have Value

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For anyone who thinks watching cat videos on the Internet is a waste of time, think again.

A new study posted in the journal Computers in Human Behavior examined how cat videos help improve your mood.

The author of the study surveyed 7,000 people and found participants reported feeling more energetic, positive and more productive after watching cat videos.

She said, though some people might not think cat videos are a serious enough topic for academic research, they are enduringly popular, and if we want to understand how the Internet affects our society, cat videos need to be studied.

So, if you're in the mood to do some on-site research, you should be aware that tickets have gone on sale for the 2015 Internet Cat Video Festival. The festival, now in its 4th year, is put on by the Walker Art Center. This year it will be on Aug. 12 at the new CHS Field in St. Paul.
