Stolen Car Pursuit Ends With Fargo Officer Shooting Man

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A 31-year-old man was shot three times by a Fargo police officer after authorities say the suspect aimed a replica of a real gun with a laser pointer at the officer.

The incident began early Monday with the pursuit of a stolen car in Traill County. It culminated after 3 a.m. in a parking lot near a fast food restaurant in Fargo.

Police Chief Dave Todd says the officer confronted the suspect outside of his squad car, and fired when the suspect pointed the weapon at him. It turned out to be a pellet gun.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for surgery. There was no immediate word on his condition. A female in the car was arrested.

The officer wasn't immediately named. The state crime bureau will investigate.
