Stolen 40-Pound Pet Tortoise Recovered In Wis.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Kenosha police say a 40-pound tortoise worth about $4,000 has been recovered after its owner reported it stolen.

Police say the pet tortoise was eating grass on the front lawn of a house when it was taken on Monday. They say it was dropped off at a Kenosha pet store Wednesday and they're treating it as a theft.

Ernesto De Armas tells WISN-TV he usually keeps four of the African Sulcata tortoises in his yard. He says he called police when he realized one was missing.

Police say the person who took the tortoise may have thought it was on the loose. They posted on the Kenosha Police Department's Facebook page about the missing tortoise Tuesday and later announced its recovery.
