State Patrol Released Video Of 8-Year-Old's Joyride

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An 8-year-old's joyride on the highway earlier this year was caught on camera.

Dash-cam video released by the Minnesota State Patrol shows the boy at the end of his route from St. Paul to Mounds View on April 28.

His two foster siblings were also inside the vehicle.

The video captures the moment a state trooper catches up to him in a Mounds View neighborhood. The boy eventually turns into a driveway and the trooper pulls up behind him.

The boy puts the car in reverse at first and hits the squad car before parking. The trooper gets out and checks to see what's going on.

The pajama-clad boy eventually gets out of his car. He takes out his backpack and a bag with his belongings.

Then his 5-year-old foster sister and her 3-year-old brother also get out of the car.

The three of them leave with the trooper, unharmed. They were returned to their foster family.

It is still unknown why the boy took off or where he planned to drive.
