State Patrol K-9 With Impressive Drug-Seizing Career Retires
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A furry, four-legged officer is calling it a day after an impressive career.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 10-year-old K-9 officer Arco is retiring after eight years on duty.
Arco is responsible for sniffing out hundreds of pounds of drugs during his time as an officer, and his stats are outstanding:
- $1.7 million in drug money
- 605 pounds of marijuana
- 52 pounds of cocaine
- 37 pounds of methamphetamine
- A 1/2 ounce of heroin
- A 1/2 ounce of LSD
- 53 grams of hash
- 115 ecstasy tablets
- 28 grams of psilocybin mushrooms
- 22 firearms
- Five false compartments in vehicles
Arco worked with his handler – Sgt. Chad Mills – along the Interstate 90 corridor since early 2007. He was deployed 351 times during his career.
The state patrol says Mills and Arco also excelled in K-9 competitions on the regional and national level.
