State Patrol: Icy Conditions Cause Fatal Crash In Carver County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Icy conditions were a major factor in a broadside crash west of the Twin Cities Tuesday night that killed on driver and sent another to the hospital, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 9:23 p.m. on County Road 11 and White Pine Way in Carver County. A Chevy Malibu was heading southbound on County Road 11 when the driver lost control, slid on the icy road sideways into the northbound lanes and hit a Dodge pick-up truck.

The driver of the pick-up attempted to avoid the car, but the two collided. The State Patrol said both drivers were taken to the hospital. The driver of the Malibu was pronounced dead, and the driver of the pick-up truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Road conditions were icy at the time of the crash, which authorities said likely played a factor. The name of the victim has not been released. The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Carver County Sheriff's Office.
