State Patrol: I-35 Southbound Closed At Rush City Due To Fatal Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A highway is closed in eastern Minnesota as State Patrol investigates a fatal crash.

According to State Patrol, a Chevy Equinox was going the wrong way on southbound Interstate 35 in Chisago County just before 3:30 Saturday.

The Equinox struck a Ford Fusion head on. The Fusion then caught fire, according to State Patrol.

Southbound I-35 is closed at Rush City until further notice, State Patrol said.

Early Saturday morning, another driver was arrested farther north on I-35 in Carlton County after police saw him driving the wrong way. A 29-year-old man from Superior, Wisconsin, was arrested for third degree DWI, reckless driving, failure to stop for an emergency vehicle and wrong way driving, according to the Carlton County Sheriff's Office.

That driver is being held at the Carlton County jail.
