State Patrol: 2 Dead In Separate Crashes In Fillmore Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two people from the same town died in separate head-on crashes Tuesday in Fillmore County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The first crash happened just after 7 a.m. on Highway 52. A southbound Infiniti FX collided head-on with a northbound Pontiac Grand AM, which had drifted into the Infiniti's lane.

The driver of the Pontiac, 19-year-old Enos Swartzentruber of Mabel, was killed in the crash.

Two passengers in the Infiniti, 38-year-old Donnette Goldsmith and 8-year-old Shawntae Goldsmith of Preston, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the Mayo Clinic.

The second fatal accident happened west of Mabel on Highway 44 just after 3 p.m., when a Dodge Caliber and a semi truck collided head-on. The driver of the car, 69-year-old Jerilyn G. Knowlton from Mabel, was killed. The semi driver, 50-year-old George W. Opperman from Waukon, Iowa, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The state patrol has not released either of their identities.
