State Patrol: 135 Crashes In Metro Due To Icy Rain, Sleet

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota State Patrol are reporting at least 135 crashes in the metro area due to the icy rain Tuesday.

The state patrol said there have been 135 crashes and 40 spin-outs between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In Fridley, a semi-truck rollover blocked three lanes of traffic on westbound Interstate 694.

MnDOT video of the area shows huge back-ups building up behind the crash, which occurred near Main Street.

A spin-out accident occurred on Interstate 494 near Highway 61 in south St. Paul, resulting with the car facing the wrong way.

MnDOT was out overnight pretreating some hazard areas, such as bridges and curves. However, because the wintery-mix fell first, it diluted some of their efforts, which caused roads to be more slick.

State Patrol said that 11 crashes involved injuries, but all of them were minor.
