State Patrol: 1 Dead In Crow Wing County Motorcycle Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A motorcyclist is dead after a crash with an SUV Monday afternoon in Brainerd, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Authorities responded to the accident at about 2:39 p.m. on Highway 210 and 3rd Street. When officers arrived, a 1997 Chevy Blazer was headed westbound on Highway 210 and making a left turn when it hit a 2004 Honda motorcycle heading eastbound on Highway 210.

The State Patrol said the driver of the motorcycle, identified as 30-year-old John D. Helstrom of Brainerd, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured. According to the State Patrol, the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol said what led up to the crash is under investigation with assistance from Brainerd Police, Baxter Police and the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.
