State Fines Crow Wing County Landfill $12,000

BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) -- The Crow Wing County Landfill has paid a $12,000 fine for accepting and improperly disposing of 15 barrels of flammable liquid hazardous waste.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the hazardous waste accepted by the landfill in November 2012 posed a potential threat to human health.

But the MPCA also said in a news release Wednesday that the waste has since been removed from the site just east of Brainerd and properly disposed of at an approved hazardous waste facility.

Besides paying the $12,000 fine, the landfill also agreed to complete a series of corrective actions.
