Minnesota State Fair Awash In Purple For Prince

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- You may have noticed a certain color theme at the Minnesota State Fair today. A lot of people were wearing purple to celebrate Prince's life.

WCCO's sister station 104.1 Jack-FM was playing Prince music all day, along with the Haunted Mansion. While "Purple Rain" doesn't exactly conjure the feelings of fear one might have before entering the latter, Arthur Bishop is willing to set a different tone to honor the life of Prince.

"It takes a little edge off until you get inside," he said.

The late musician's impact was felt throughout the fair for "Unite in Purple" day. It may be the one time where purple pride at the fair, now on the cusp of football season, had absolutely nothing to do with sports.

Hues of prince's signature color stood out among the crowd, and many of the favorite fair food booths found ways to honor the late artist. For example, at Al's Subs and Malts, every malt was showered in a purple rain of sprinkles.
