Stalled Construction On West River Parkway Closes Road Through December

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It could be months before part of West River Parkway is open to drivers again.

In June 2014 a mudslide on the West Bank of University of Minnesota caused evacuations and road closures on West River Parkway.

Over the past year, crews have worked to set up two walls that will help stabilize the slope. They were set to finish in the summer of 2015.

According to the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board, multiple minor mudslides that have occurred since the beginning of August 2015 have delayed the construction of the walls.

Parks and recreation also said the erosion due to the mudslide has created steep embankments below where contractors place drill rigs and other construction equipment.

Construction equipment has subsequently been removed until the erosion is controlled.

Due to the erosion and removal of equipment, the construction will now continue through December 2015.

The parkway will remain closed until that time.
