Stabbing Suspect Arrested After Standoff With Police

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 28-year-old Blaine man is in custody after a standoff with police followed a stabbing that injured a man early Sunday morning in Circle Pines.

The Centennial Lakes Police Department received a report of a stabbing at about 5:32 a.m. Sunday on the 100 block of Village Parkway. When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old man from Centerville with a laceration to his arm.

The victim was transported to Regions Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A SWAT team from the Anoka County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and assisted with taking a male suspect into custody without incident. Authorities identified the suspect as Joseph David Mahowald. He is currently being held in the Anoka County Jail pending criminal charges.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is investigating what led up to the stabbing along with the Centennial Lakes Police Department. The Blaine Police Department and Lino Lakes Police Department are providing assistance in the investigation.
