Celebrate Grapes, Wine On St. Urho's Day

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Happy St. Urho's Day!

March 16 is St. Urho's day and Minnesotans are invited to wear purple to celebrate the holiday.

As legend has it, St. Urho saved the vineyards of Finland from devastating grasshoppers by chasing them away. Someone of Finnish descent in northern Minnesota came up with the story back in the '50s.

Since then, the legend and the celebrations have spread to other states.

It's always one day before St. Patrick's Day.
