St. Paul Man Accused Of Swindling $320K From Consultant

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A St. Paul man is accused of swindling one of his fellow country club members out of $320,000.

A complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court says a business consultant who met Steven Edward Clark at the Midland Hills Country Club in Roseville made incremental loans to him beginning in 2012.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the complaint says the loans were a swindle, not an investment.

Prosecutors say Clark misled the consultant by not revealing that his company was in financial trouble and couldn't pay back the loans. The 65-year-old Clark is charged with theft by swindle.

Clark is scheduled to make his first court appearance June 2. It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
