St. Paul Superintendent To Step Down When Contract Ends

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul Public Schools superintendent Valeria Silva says she will step down from the role once her current contract is up.

A representative for the district said that once her contract ends in 2018, she will have served as superintendent for nine years, which the representative said is well above the average tenure for someone in that position in an urban school district.

Silva, who has been an employee of the district for 31 years, applied for a job in Florida last year, but withdrew her name from consideration.

Recently, the district responded to a rash of violence occurring in some of its schools, which led to a number of concerns from the teachers' union.
