St. Paul Sisters Dive Into World-Wide Mermaid Tail Market

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Twin sisters in St. Paul are making a big splash around the world with their custom-made mermaid tails.

The colorful, life-like tails are selling for thousands of dollars all around the world.

Bryn and Abby Roberts, of Finfolk Productions, started making the fully-swimmable, silicone tails for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival back in 2012.

"Just right away, there was something about it that was absolutely magical," Bryn said.

Through doing the festival and research on the internet, the Roberts found that world-wide a mermaid market existed.

"It's just very underground," Bryn said.

Last April, Finfolk put up a Kickstarter campaign, and the Roberts say that's what really lifted the project off the ground.

"It's pretty much been since August of 2013 that stuff kind of exploded for us," Abby said.
