St. Paul Police 'Heroes' Help Kids Buy Gifts At Target

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Some local kids got help with their holiday shopping from some special people--St. Paul police officers.

The police, along with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department and Metro Transit Police, hosted a "Heroes and Helpers" event Saturday at a St. Paul Target store.

The kids got gift certificates to the store and, with the help of the officers, picked out gifts for their families.

Police say events like these help bridge gaps in the community.

"I grew up here, I grew up in this neighborhood," one officer said. "For me, it's almost second nature. I shop here at Target, so I spend a lot of time here and a lot of people in the area know me."

More than 220 kids from St. Paul area schools got to participate.
