St. Paul Man Charged For Shooting Romantic Rival

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A St. Paul man faces attempted murder charges in connection with a drive-by shooting on Monday afternoon in West St. Paul, according to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office.

Jorge Roman Vasquez, 35, was charged Thursday with first-and second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault and a charge for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to an apartment complex at 2 p.m. Monday on a report of multiple shots fired. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the arm and leg.

Witnesses said the suspect fled in a green car, and one was able to identify the suspect as Vasquez, who had recently been released from prison. Further investigation revealed that the victim had been involved with Vasquez's girlfriend.

Vasquez was arrested at his St. Paul apartment without incident. He made his first court appearance Wednesday, where his bail was set at $600,000.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 16.
