St. Paul Breweries Start Sunday Growler Sales

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's a big day for craft beer lovers in St. Paul. Breweries and brewpubs there started Sunday Growler sales today.

St. Paul joins a growing list of Minnesota cities allowing growler sales on Sundays. It's a new exception to state laws that generally ban sales of alcohol to go on Sundays.

Growlers are 64-ounce refillable glass jugs. Pubs fill them from the tap, and they can be washed and reused. Urban Growler Brewing sold 50 growlers in two hours.

"Yes we're very pleased and we decided hey this is a historic day, we can buy a growler on Sunday so let's do it," DeWayne Bloem, who purchased a growler Sunday, said.

Minneapolis, Duluth, and several other cities started their growler sales last month.
