St. Paul Bar Badly Damaged In Fire, No Injuries

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities say there were no injuries but a bar just outside downtown St. Paul was badly damaged in a fire early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews were called to Schroeder's Bar at 605 Front Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. on a report of fire. When firefighters arrived, flames and smoke were showing from the second floor of the building. Crews entered to fight the blaze but immediately got surrounded, so they were forced to evacuate the building and fight the fire from the outside.

Crews were able to get the fire out, but remained on scene to look out for any hot spots. Authorities say nobody was inside the bar at the time of the fire. Fire officials say the damage to the building is substantial. Schroeder's Bar is located just northwest of downtown St. Paul.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and it did not spread to any nearby buildings. St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said the cold weather made the fire difficult to fight due to frozen water on the ground. No firefighters were hurt battling the blaze.
