St. Cloud Snocross Athlete Wins 5th Gold At Winter X Games

ASPEN, Colo. (WCCO) -- A St. Cloud native won his 5th gold medal at the Winter X Games Thursday.

Mike Schultz's win came a year after he shattered his heel in the Snowboarding Boardercross competition three days before 2015's X Games.

Schultz is also an amputee -- he lost his left leg above the knee in a 2008 Snocross accident, but that didn't keep him off the trails. Schultz engineered his own prosthetic limb, and founded a company that patented prosthetic technology for action sport athletes and wounded soldiers.

"I love to compete, and winning medals is rewarding - but what I really love is seeing athletes challenge themselves, dig deep and go after their goals," Schultz said in a statement.
