Sprint, Verizon To Refund $120M To Customers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Verizon and Sprint have agreed to pay $120 million in refunds to customers.

Both companies agreed to these refunds in order to settle allegations that the wireless carriers billed customers millions of dollars for unauthorized services from third-parties.

The practice is known as "cramming."

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said some Verizon and Sprint users were tricked through online ads.

In return, the companies received as much as 40 percent of the money from these charges.

Similar settlements were made with AT&T and T-Mobile last year.

Customers can submit a claim for a refund.

Verizon customers can submit claims for refunds at www.CFPBSettlementVerizon.com or ask questions by calling 888-726-7063.

Sprint customers can submit claims at www.SprintRefundPSMS.com or call 877-389-8787.
