Spring Thaw Causes Highway 74 Near Beaver To Close

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Seven miles of Highway 74 near Beaver in Winona County have been temporarily closed Wednesday, March 18, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

MnDOT said the highway is closed due to poor road conditions caused by spring thaw. Waterways near the area are also rising.

The seven miles runs from Winona County Road 30 in Beaver, to Wabasha County Road 26, in Weaver.

According to MnDOT, workers have placed barricades on the road and signs warning motorists of its closure.

The road will remain until conditions improve. In 2014, the highway was closed from April 1 through May 9.

This is MnDOT's only gravel road and lies within the Whitewater Wildlife Area north of Elba. Whitewater State Park is south of the closure.
