Spring Has Sprung, But Winter Won't Wane

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Many Minnesota students are on Spring Break, but signs of winter remain strong in the month of March.

With temperatures inching up and down, families across the Metro are making the most of indoor activities.

From a record high temperature of 70 degrees to almost a foot of snow, March was full of surprises in Minnesota.

Mother of 2-year-old twins, Kristen Smith, decided to take her children to Edinborough Park in Edina on Friday.

"We were just trying to figure out what we were going to do because we can't really go to the park, it's too cold," Smith said.

The park is in the middle of the busiest weeks of the year so far, as children are on break from school.

"They like to jump, they like to ride bikes, they like to play on playgrounds so this is perfect," Smith said.

Apple Valley resident Onome Hunt and her family are also looking for indoor alternatives this time of year.

The family's home got almost one foot of snow earlier this week.

"We were driving 5 mph in Burnsville along 494," Hunt said. "It was really awful."

The Hunts spent part of Spring Break at a packed Mall of America.

"It's Minnesota," Hunt said. "What can we say, right?"

March is the third snowiest month on average in Minnesota after January and December.
