Spirit Mountain To Host Extreme Snowmobile Endurance Race

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Spirit Mountain in Duluth will host a new snowmobile endurance racing event next month, Red Bull Snow Boundaries.

It's open to pro and amateur racers alike with more than $100,000 in cash and prizes. Organizers say it'll be an aggressive 30-mile loop across challenging terrain that will push each rider to their limit. It combines elements of snowcross, hill climbing, cross-country and ice racing.

The course includes eight miles up and down Spirit Mountain, 15 miles through the surrounding trails and forest, and seven miles across the ice of the St. Louis River. Obstacles along the way will include water skips, log crosses, rock chutes, bridge crossings, tire piles and vertical climbs.

The event runs March 27 and 28, with qualifying time trials that Friday and finals on Saturday.
