Man Arrested Following Fatal Stabbing In South Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minneapolis's third homicide of 2017 occurred Saturday night when police say a man fatally stabbed a relative on the city's south side.

The Minneapolis Police Department says the stabbing happened shortly before 11 p.m. at an apartment building on 2101 3rd Avenue South.

Officers responding to an assault call found a man, later identified as 35-year-old Cassidine Fontaine Hazley, at the building suffering from a stab wound to his chest. While authorities tried to help Hazley, he died at the scene.

Police say they arrested a man at the scene believed to be a relative of Hazley. He was slated to be booked into the Hennepin County Jail. No other suspects are being sought.

Police say officers will be in the neighborhood Sunday to speak with community members about domestic violence and handing out information about the Domestic Abuse Project.

Authorities say that anyone who feels they are not in a safe relationship is encouraged to call 911 or the Domestic Abuse Project at 612-874-7063.
