Soldier Meets His Baby Girl For The 1st Time At MSP

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More than 40 soldiers from the 204th Medical Company of the National Guard are returning to Minnesota over the next few weeks, following a nine-month deployment in Sinai, Egypt.

A group of seven soldiers returned Thursday, flying into the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

One of them was Sgt. Michael Sigerson. His wife, Lisa, had their baby while he was away.

Sigerson said it was difficult being away from his family for nine months.

Lisa said it was hard for her, too, and that many days she would daydream about the moment of her husband's return.

Four-month-old Evelyn and her big sister, Liv, were also happy to see their dad.

Lisa says that while her husband was away, she received a lot of help and support from family and friends.

As for Sigerson, now that he is home, he says he's looking forward to overnight feedings and diapers changes.

A little over a month from now, the community will hold a welcome home celebration for the soldiers at Century College in White Bear Lake.

That event is slated for Aug. 29, and the public is encouraged to attend.
